Ingredients
1/2 kg boneless chicken cut into thin long strips
Oil to deep fry
For marinade
1 egg beaten well
2 tsp cornflour
a pinch of red food colour
1/2 tsp pepper powder
2 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
salt to taste
For the sauce
4-5 garlic cloves finely chopped
2 tsp tomato sauce
1 tsp chilli sauce
1 tbsp honey
2 tsp sesame seeds
3 tbsp finely chopped spring onion greens
2 tbsp finely chopped spring onions(white part)
2 pinches of red food colour
1 tsp white pepper powder
1 tsp freshly crushed peppercorns
1 tsp soya sauce
1/2 tsp cornflour mixed with 1/4 cup water
salt to taste
2 tbsp oil
Method
- Marinate the chicken strips with the ingredients mentioned under marinade for 1 hour
- Heat oil in a pan, and fry 6-7 chicken strips at a time till tender and crisp on both sides, repeat with the rest of the pieces, drain on a kitchen towel and then keep aside
For the sauce
- Heat oil in a pan,add garlic and spring onion(white part) and fry till golden brown, then add pepper powder and fry for a minute
- Then add tomato sauce, soya sauce, chilli sauce,red food colour and salt,1/2 tsp crushed peppercorns and then fry for another 2 minutes
- Add 3-4 tbsp water, when it starts boiling add cornflour paste and fry for a minute
- Add fried chicken strips and mix such that it gets blended well with the sauce
- Lastly add honey over it and mix it well
- Garnish it with sesame seeds, spring onion greens and sprinkle crushed peppercorns on it and then serve hot as a starter
( if ur a vegetarian u can use mushrooms or paneer instead of chicken)

ReplyDeleteSushma, I realised in chinese cooking apart from the spices that we use the oil also plays an imp role. Try using sesame oil or peanut oil or a blend, I am sure that almost there will become completely there, otherwise the recipe looks absolutely great, I will try the veg version surely.

ReplyDeletewe used to get this dish called dragon chicken in a restaurant near our apartment in hyd. it used to be SPICY! and we loved it. each time we order it, we'd get heaps of curd and eat with teary eyes. haha.. brings back memories :)
